Israel and Iran could sign non-aggression pact

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu"s visit to Moscow was highly successful in terms of efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear problem. Russia has agreed to suspend the supply of S-300 air defense systems to Iran, while the Israeli prime minister and the Kremlin leadership discussed the possibility of signing a non-aggression pact with Iran modeled on the Soviet-U.S. agreement that settled the Cuban missile crisis.

Yevgeny Satanovsky, president of Russia"s Institute for Israeli and Middle Eastern Studies, who met with Netanyahu during his visit to Moscow, said the Israeli and Russian leaders discussed the conditions a pact like this requires.

"If Iran signs an agreement in which it pledges not to launch a nuclear strike against Israel, this would preclude direct military conflict between the two countries," Satanovsky said.
