Medvedev said the position of "some U.S. newspapers" who "call terrorists "rebels"" was an "insult" to the memory of those killed in the recent deadly terrorist attacks on the Moscow subway.

The Russian president, who answered questions at a U.S. think tank, spoke Russian but said the word "rebels" in English.

Twin blasts at the Lubyanka and Park Kultury metro stations in the Russian capital occurred on March 29, killing 40 people and injuring around 100.

Western media often use the words "rebels" or "independence fighters" in cases when Russia, in line with its official position, can only use "militants," "separatists" or even stronger words.
