The body of 45-year-old Mikhail Pokrashenko, with a blood-stained string on the neck, was found lying face up in his bed in Pattaya"s Royal Palace Hotel early on Friday. The man also had slight bruise on the left side of his neck, which police says might be a sign of a violent death.
Forensics, however, found no signs of struggle in the room, and the body had no visible injuries apart from the neck bruising. Diamond-encrusted jewelry on the body and $15,000 in cash on the bedside table remained untouched.
"At present police are reluctant to rule out the possibility of murder due to the markings on Mr. Pokrashenko"s neck, however; police believe it is highly unusual that a murderer would not have taken all of the valuables or money from the room," the paper said.
Preliminary examination revealed that Pokrashenko had a sexual intercourse shortly before his death. The body was sent for autopsy to establish the exact cause of death.
