"The president will make a short visit to Moscow to [attend] the baptism of his [former] schoolmate"s grandson," Anna German told Ukrainian news agency Unian.
German also said Yanukovych will visit the grave of cosmonaut Georgy Beregovoy to honor "the memory of a man who played a significant role" in his life.
No meetings with Russia"s leadership are planned.
Yanukovych was elected Ukraine"s president in this past February"s runoff. During his election campaign, he had to fight back opponents, who were reminding voters of his two past convictions over criminal charges.
In the 1970s, Beregovoy, a deputy of the U.S.S.R. Supreme Soviet then, successfully pushed for Yanukovych"s convictions to be formally withdrawn.
Yanukovych assumed office February 25, replacing Viktor Yushchenko whose presidency saw Ukraine-Russia relations deteriorate. Yanukovych is set for rapprochement with Russia. He paid an official visit to the country in March.
